Endocrine aspects of anovulation.
نویسنده
چکیده
Sunnmary Endocrine features of anovulation are reviewed, with particular emphasis on methods of investigation. The value of, and indications for, measurements of serum gonadotrophin concentrations are discussed: it appears that FSH measurements allow better discrimination than LH measurements in diagnosing patients with primary ovarian failure. The results of stimulation tests with the synthetic form of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone are described and the relationship of tests with exogenous progestogens and clomiphene is discussed.

Current aspects of polycystic ovary syndrome: A literature review.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a heterogeneous endocrine disorder with variable prevalence, affecting about one in every 15 women worldwide. The diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome requires at least two of the following criteria: oligoovulation and/or anovulation, clinical and/or biochemical evidence of hyperandrogenism and morphology of polycystic ovaries. Women with PCOS appear to hav...
متن کاملPolycystic Ovary Syndrome: Features, Diagnostic Criteria and Treatments
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorder that affects 6–15% of the female population. It is a very complex syndrome that involves the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland, the ovaries, the adrenal gland and the peripheral adipose tissue that together contribute to create a generally imbalance, associated with three characteristic symptoms: oligo-anovulat...
متن کاملDiagnosis, phenotype, and prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome.
New diagnostic criteria for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) suggested three main phenotypes: classic (hyperandrogenism and anovulation), ovulatory, and normoandrogenic. However, it is unclear whether the normoandrogenic phenotype actually represents PCOS. Overall, 6% to 8% of reproductive-aged women suffer from PCOS, making this disorder one of the most common endocrine abnormalities.
متن کاملPrevalence of polycystic ovaries in women with anovulation and idiopathic hirsutism.
Polycystic ovaries were defined with ultrasound imaging in a series of 173 women who presented to a gynaecological endocrine clinic with anovulation or hirsutism. Polycystic ovaries were found in 26% of women with amenorrhoea, 87% with oligomenorrhoea, and 92% with idiopathic hirsutism--that is, hirsutism but with regular menstrual cycles. Fewer than half the anovulatory patients with polycysti...
متن کاملProhibitin-induced obesity leads to anovulation and polycystic ovary in mice
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder and the most common cause of female infertility. However, its etiology and underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here we report that a transgenic obese mouse (Mito-Ob) developed by overexpressing prohibitin in adipocytes develops polycystic ovaries. Initially, the female Mito-Ob mice were equally fertile to their wild-type litte...
